Our clinic

Built small on purpose, so nobody is rushed

We deliberately capped the practice at three consulting rooms. It means longer appointments, the same vet at every recheck, and a waiting room that smells like clean laundry rather than fear. Owners tell us that is the difference they notice.

Fear-free handling, from the car park in

Separate dog and cat waiting zones, pheromone diffusers, non-slip mats and consent for pre-visit calming medication — because a calm pet is a safely examined pet.

Answers while you wait, not next week

Blood counts, electrolytes and urinalysis run on site in about 20 minutes. Digital X-ray and ultrasound images are read in the consult room with you, on a big screen.

An estimate before anything happens

Written itemised estimates, three tiers of treatment option where clinically valid, and insurance direct-billing with the major Hong Kong pet insurers so you are not out of pocket.

Notes you can actually read afterwards

Every visit ends with a plain-language summary emailed to you — what we found, what we did, what to watch for and what it cost. Digital records travel with you if you relocate.

Emergencies

Something is wrong right now. Call before you drive.

Phone triage is free and it changes what we can do. A nurse or vet answers, tells you whether to come in or to go straight to the referral hospital, and briefs the team so treatment starts the moment you park.

What happens when you call

  1. You describe the symptoms. Bleeding, breathing, bloating, a swallowed object, a seizure — say it plainly, no need for medical words.
  2. We triage and guide you. Sometimes the answer is a warm towel and a 9am appointment. Sometimes it is "come now" or "go to the 24-hour referral centre — here is the address".
  3. We prepare while you travel. Oxygen, fluids, analgesia and imaging are set up before arrival, and we take a deposit estimate at the door so nothing stops mid-treatment.

Come in immediately if you see

  • Laboured breathing, blue gums or a stretched-out neck
  • A bloated, drum-tight abdomen with unproductive retching
  • Collapse, seizure, or inability to stand
  • Known ingestion of chocolate, grapes, xylitol or lilies
  • Uncontrollable bleeding, or a wound through the body wall
  • Straining to urinate, especially in male cats

Flea, tick and worm prevention that actually holds

Monthly spot-ons fail for predictable reasons: applied to fur instead of skin, given a day late every month, or swapped for a supermarket product built for a different parasite. Here is the schedule we recommend for Hong Kong's humidity.

Cats are built to look fine. Subtle changes — a new sleeping spot, a missed jump onto the sofa, a slightly flatter posture while eating — are often a dental or arthritis problem that has been building for months.

Unedited excerpts from verified appointment reviews, published with the owner's permission.

“My senior cat had been ‘fine’ everywhere else for two years. Dr Whitlock spent forty minutes with her, ran bloods on site and found early kidney changes we could actually act on. Eight months later her numbers are still stable.”
Priya N.Owner of Saffron, 12-year-old cat
“Our beagle ate a whole bar of dark chocolate on a Sunday night. Dr Osei answered on the second ring, talked us through what to watch for, and had the trolley ready when we walked in. No drama, no lecture — just competence.”
Marcus L.Owner of Biscuit, 3-year-old beagle
“The dental appointment was the first vet visit our terrier has not fought. They sent me a photo of his teeth on the day and a brushing routine I could actually follow. Invoice matched the estimate to the dollar.”

Common questions

Everything owners ask before the first visit

Puppy and kitten first consults are HK$480 and include a full physical examination, weight and body condition score, faecal check and a written vaccination schedule. Adult and senior consults start at HK$520 and rise if we recommend diagnostics. You always receive an itemised estimate and written consent form before anything beyond the consult is carried out.

The emergency line is answered by a vet or nurse 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Between 8pm and 8am a vet is on call from home. For genuinely critical cases — major trauma, gastric dilatation, severe respiratory distress — we will usually stabilise by phone advice and direct you to the 24-hour referral hospital which has onsite overnight staffing, then take over your pet's ongoing care the next morning.

Yes, and we encourage it — most pets settle faster with their person nearby. You stay in the consult room for the whole examination. For radiographs, dental work and surgery you will be asked to wait in the lounge, because lead aprons and sterile fields are involved, but we call you the moment your pet is awake and comfortable.

Age alone is rarely the deciding factor — organ function and pain are. Every patient over seven, and any patient with a heart murmur, has pre-anaesthetic bloodwork and a chest assessment first. Dr Bell then chooses the protocol accordingly, with dedicated monitoring of blood pressure, ECG, capnography and temperature throughout. Leaving painful teeth or a growing lump untreated carries its own risk, and we will be straight with you about which is the safer path.

We direct-bill OneDegree, Blue Cross and Petble for eligible treatments, so you pay only the excess at the desk. For other insurers we provide a fully itemised invoice and a completed claim form the same day. If you have not yet insured your pet, our reception team will happily explain the difference between accident-only and comprehensive cover — we have no commercial arrangement with any insurer, so the advice is free of bias.

Give us at least four hours' notice and there is no charge — call, WhatsApp or reply to your confirmation message. Surgery bookings need 48 hours because the theatre slot and the anaesthesia team are allocated to your pet. We know that pets get sick at inconvenient times, so if you are running late to a consult, still come; we would rather see you than have you turn around.
