The Firm

Clarity first. Candour always.

Founded in Hong Kong, Whitford & Crane was built on a simple observation: clients do not need more legal jargon. They need a firm that explains the options, prices them honestly, and stands beside them with genuine resolve.

Our solicitors work across corporate, contentious and private-client matters, so the advice you receive considers the whole picture — not just one corner of it. Where a matter calls for specialist counsel, we brief the right barristers and experts without hesitation, and we manage the process end to end.

  • Plain-language advice, delivered in writing where it matters
  • Transparent fee estimates before any work begins
  • A single point of contact who knows your file
  • Strict confidentiality as a matter of professional duty

How We Work

A process you can follow, from day one.

You will always know where your matter stands, what happens next, and what it is likely to cost. We pursue your objectives at every stage — and we are honest about what no firm can promise.

I

Step 01Consultation

Tell us what has happened and what matters to you. A first conversation of up to thirty minutes is free, confidential and without obligation.

II

Step 02Strategy

We map the options, the costs and the risks in plain language — so you commit to a course of action with your eyes open.

III

Step 03Negotiation

Most matters are best resolved away from a courtroom. We negotiate firmly, commercially and without theatre.

IV

Step 04Resolution

When a hearing is unavoidable we prepare meticulously. Outcomes always depend on the facts and the tribunal — we give you our best effort, never a guarantee.

Diligence

Deadlines met, documents checked twice, and no surprises on the bill. Preparation is the quiet half of advocacy.

Discretion

Your affairs are held in confidence as a matter of professional duty and personal principle. What you tell us stays with us.

Common Questions

Asked, and answered honestly.

Yes. We offer up to thirty minutes of initial consultation at no charge and with no obligation to instruct us. It is a chance for you to describe your situation and for us to explain, in outline, how we would approach it and what it might cost.

It depends on the matter. Some work suits a fixed fee (for example, a straightforward will or lease), while complex or contested matters are usually billed by time. Before we begin any work you will receive a written estimate and an explanation of how fees and disbursements accrue.

Timelines vary considerably depending on the nature of the matter, the other parties involved and, in litigation, the court's calendar. After an initial review we will give you a realistic expected timeframe, and we will update you at every stage rather than leaving you to chase us.

You will always have a named lead solicitor who knows your file and answers your calls. They are supported by associates and assistants working under their supervision, so your matter proceeds efficiently without losing personal attention.

Yes. Information you share with us is protected by legal professional privilege and by our professional obligations. There are narrow exceptions required by law — for example, certain money-laundering reporting duties — and we will always explain these to you where relevant.

No. Everything on this website is general information about our firm and the areas in which we practise. It is not legal advice, and no solicitor–client relationship is created by reading it or by contacting us. Please seek specific advice tailored to your facts before acting or refraining from acting on anything you have read here.
