The Firm

One investment thesis, held for a very long time.

Since 1994 we have done one thing: buy good businesses at sensible prices and help management teams make them substantially better. No auction theatre, no financial engineering, no six-quarter exit clocks. Four offices, 42 investment professionals and a single committee that has worked together for over a decade.

01

Founder-led and family-owned

Roughly two thirds of our platforms have been majority-family-owned for more than a generation. We structure for the seller's priorities — legacy, employees, timing and tax — not our own.

02

Concentrated, research-first diligence

We complete fewer than four new platforms a year. Each one is preceded by an average of nine months of sector mapping and reference work before the first meeting.

03

Control, with management aligned

We invest for control but keep management teams in real equity. Median management ownership at exit across our last three funds was 18%.

Investment Focus

Six sectors we know intimately.

We only underwrite what we already understand. Every focus area is led by a partner who has operated, financed or chaired businesses in that sector for two decades or more.

Value Creation

We do not buy spreadsheets. We build better companies.

Every platform gets a named operating partner, an agreed 100-day plan and access to the full resources of our value-creation group — at no cost to the business. Four disciplines do almost all of the work.

“A spreadsheet will tell you what a business is worth today. Only the people running it can tell you what it is worth in ten years — and that is the number we actually underwrite.”
