Our promise

Care that begins with knowing the person, not the diagnosis.

Before a single care plan is written, someone from our team sits down with you — often for two hours, often over tea. We learn about the garden your mother kept, the shift pattern your father worked, the songs that still bring them back. Everything we build afterwards starts from there.

The same faces, every dayThe carer who welcomes you on day one is the carer who knows your tea, your chair and your morning.
Care that grows with needIf needs change, residents stay in the same building — with the same neighbours and the same view from the window.
Families always welcomeNo visiting hours, no appointment needed. Grandchildren, dogs and birthdays included.
Fees you can read in one pageOne monthly fee, everything included. No entry fee, no exit fee, thirty days’ notice.

Not sure which level is right?

Our care assessment is free, takes about an hour, and is carried out by a registered nurse — not a salesperson. You will leave with a written recommendation whether or not you choose Sunset.

Respite & trial stays

Two weeks to two months, in a fully furnished garden suite. Many families start here — it makes the decision real before anything is signed. From $215 a night.

Life at Sunset

Everything on site, nothing to drive to

Six shared spaces our residents use every single day — not showpieces, but the rooms where the kettle is always on and somebody always knows your name.

Two older women tending plants together in a garden

Walled Garden & Greenhouse

Raised beds at hip height, wide paths with handrails, and a heated greenhouse so the tomatoes start in February. Residents plant, prune and pick — and the kitchen cooks what they bring in.

A bookcase filled with books beside a tall library ladder

The Reading Room

Four thousand books, large-print and audio editions, magnifiers by every chair, and the daily papers held behind the desk. A quiet room that is genuinely quiet.

Three older friends enjoying coffee and conversation together at a table

Tea Room & Bistro

Dietitian-written menus, three cooked meals a day, and all-day tea and cake. Family tables for eight, so birthdays and Sunday lunches happen here rather than in a restaurant.

Residents and a carer working together on a craft activity at a table

Art & Craft Atelier

Watercolour, pottery, woodwork and letter-writing, with a kiln and a proper sink. Work is framed and hung in the seasonal gallery beside the dining room.

A group practising tai chi in a bright, spacious studio

Movement Studio

Chair yoga, tai chi, balance and resistance classes every morning — plus a visiting physiotherapist on Tuesdays and Fridays. Falls prevention is not an add-on here; it is the whole point.

An older woman laughing with a dog on her lap

Pet Companions

Two resident golden retrievers who have their own beds in the lounge, a visiting therapy-dog rota, and an aviary in the conservatory. Residents’ own pets are welcome by arrangement.

Activities calendar

Seven days, and something to get up for

Our programme is written by residents, not for them. Sixty-one activity slots a month, and you are never once counted as absent. Pick a day to see the usual shape of it.

Chair & standing dance

Wednesdays at eleven. Nobody needs to remember the steps — only the chorus.

Three older men in blazers singing together indoors

The Sunset Choir

Twenty-three voices, Thursdays at half six. They tour the local school each December.

A woman sitting at a piano playing music

Music in the lounge

Live piano and a different resident’s record collection, every Thursday evening.

Three older people working on a jigsaw puzzle together at a table

Games & puzzles table

Always set up, always mid-game. Bridge on Tuesdays, bingo on Wednesdays, scrabble daily.

For families

You are not handing anyone over. You are joining in.

The hardest part of this decision is almost never the care itself — it is the guilt, the paperwork and the logistics. Here is the help we give families, before and long after moving day.

Questions families ask us first

Usually a family already knows, and is looking for permission. The signposts are practical rather than dramatic: meals being skipped, medication running out early, a fall nobody witnessed, a house that has quietly become too much. If two or more of those are true, an hour with our nurse costs nothing and settles the question either way.

Yes — there are no visiting hours. Families hold their own key fob to the garden gate. Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome, and we will happily set up a private family table in the Tea Room with a day’s notice.

Residents move between our wings without changing address, GP or telephone number — and without a new contract or entry fee. The monthly fee is adjusted to the new level, with thirty days’ written notice, and we will always discuss it with you before anything changes.

None. One refundable two-week holding deposit, one monthly fee that covers rent, care, meals, housekeeping, utilities and the full activity programme. There is no lock-in contract and no deferred management fee — leave with thirty days’ notice.

Absolutely, and most do. We arrange transport to outside appointments twice a day, and our nurses will send written notes to your GP after every significant change. If you would rather switch, two practices in Cedar Hollow visit residents here.

We are a private-pay community, and we accept long-term care insurance benefits and veterans’ aid. Our family liaison will sit with you and your insurer or financial adviser, at no charge, and will tell you honestly if a different community would serve you better.

“I flew in from Singapore for one afternoon to look at three homes. Sunset was the only one where somebody asked me what my mother was like, rather than what she needed. She has been there nineteen months now and I have never once worried on the plane home.”

Admission

Four steps, and no pressure at any of them

Most families take between three weeks and four months to decide. We will not chase you, and we will tell you plainly if we are not the right fit.

Make an enquiry

Fill in the form, or telephone us and speak to a human being within one working hour. We will ask about your situation, not about your budget.

Visit & free care assessment

Come for lunch, walk the whole site, meet residents and staff on an ordinary day. Then an hour with our registered nurse produces a written care recommendation — yours to keep.

Trial stay, if you want one

Two weeks in a furnished garden suite from $215 a night. Many families begin here, then make the decision with their eyes open rather than under pressure.

Move-in day

A named liaison coordinates everything: room preparation, prescription transfer, GP notification and the first week’s routine. We will hang your pictures before you arrive if you send them ahead.
